Raghida Lepistö is an adjunct professor and senior researcher in environmental biotechnology at TUT, IEEB with more than 20 years of academic and practical experience in various aspects of environmental protection, treatment, and control. Her duties at TUT include research in the areas of anaerobic and aerobic waste, sludge, and wastewater treatment and soil remediation. She teaches environmental biotechnology courses such as biological treatment processes, biofilm and reactor kinetics, leachates formation and treatment, and soil remediation. Her teaching at TUT includes advising degree works (BSc, MSc. and Ph.D) and training for exchange students. She also worked for 7 years as an environmental consultant in the USA with duties ranging from those of quality control officer to supervisor in remediation of soil, monitoring anaerobic and aerobic industrial and municipal wastewater treatment plants (WTPs), quality control of priority pollutants, and risk assessment. Her current research interests include biological treatment of industrial biowastes, antioxidants in WTPs, remediation of soil contaminated with petroleum hydrocarbons, electrokinetics for removal of micropollutants in sludge from drinking waster treatment plants, and nutrient removal in small WTPs in Finland.
